Use the Resize tool to change the dimensions of an image. It lets you change the canvas size and you have the option to use AI to fill any extra space. For example, you can turn a portrait photo into a landscape image and Photoroom will add extra background to make the image fill the canvas.

How it works:

You provide a source image. This could be an image you upload or an image you are working on in Photoroom.
You use the settings to choose the size you want and tell Photoroom how to handle any extra space.
Photoroom generates an image based on your choices.
You can then use the image as is or use the editor to make further changes.

Ways to access Resize

The Resize tool is available as:

A standalone tool from the AI tools menu.
An option in the Batch editor
An option in the Shopify Products editor
An option in the main editor.

Settings for Resize

Resize can have the following settings. The availability of the settings varies depending on where you access Resize and what device you are using.

Source image

Only when using the Resize standalone tool. Upload an image to resize or choose an image that already exists in the Space.

When using Resize in an editor, the image(s) you are working on or have selected are the source image.

Preset size (Square, Landscape, Portrait, etc.)

Choose one of the preset sizes from the list. Photoroom has many preset sizes available, including traditional Landscape, Portrait, and Square as well as preset sizes designed especially for social media and marketplace sites.

Custom dimensions

Select Custom Dimensions to set your own canvas size.

Use Width and Height to set the size
Select one of the size shortcuts, such as Half size or Max size
Select the padlock icon to toggle the aspect ratio lock*

* When the lock is on, you can't change the aspect ratio. For example, if you change the width, the height will change automatically so that the canvas keeps its shape. When the lock is off, you can change the shape.

Reset

Use to prevent Photoroom from expanding the image to fill the canvas. If the canvas is larger than the image, there will be white space between the edges and the border.

On iOS and Android there is no Reset option. Instead, you can pinch your image to make it smaller on the canvas or you can cancel the background extending while it is taking place.

Zoom fill

Use to zoom in on the image and make it fill the canvas.

On iOS and Android there is no Zoom fill option. Instead, you can use gestures to magnify the image on the canvas.

Expanded backgrounds

Choose an AI-generated expanded background. This is where the image is smaller than the canvas and Photoroom's AI has added extra background to fill the canvas.

On iOS and Android, the expanding happens automatically when you choose a canvas size. You can cancel the expanding while it is in progress. Alternatively, use gestures to change the image's size on the canvas in the editor.

Download the image as an image file (Web App).

Use image

Open the image in the editor (Web App).
