Introduction to Backgrounds

Learn about the different types of background in Photoroom and find instructions on how to create them.

Photoroom offers several ways to create or replace image backgrounds, including:

  • Generate backgrounds with AI

  • Apply a template

  • Use a solid color

  • Upload an image

  • Use a transparent background

  • Keep the original background.

This article introduces each option and links to step-by-step instructions.


AI Backgrounds

Generate a background by entering a text prompt or choosing from pre-made styles.

Template backgrounds

Apply a pre-designed layout that automatically places your subject into a new design. You can use built-in templates or create your own.

Color backgrounds

Replace the background with a single color from a color palette or choose a color from your brand kit.

Image backgrounds

Use any image file as a background and adjust its appearance with the layer settings. For example, in the image below, we used pattern images for the background.

Transparent backgrounds

For a transparent background, you can:

  • Let Photoroom remove the background automatically when you upload the image

  • Apply the transparent template

  • Delete the background layer.
