Add a suggested AI background to your design

Learn how to use an AI-generated background that was suggested automatically by Photoroom

When you use the AI Backgrounds feature, Photoroom will analyze your imported image and provide a variety of Suggested backgrounds. At this stage, you can use one of the suggested AI backgrounds or you can choose to create your own AI background instead.

Import a photo (1), select AI Backgrounds to get suggestions (2), choose a suggested background to add it to your design (3).

Here, we are going to explain how to use one of the suggested AI backgrounds.


On iPhone and iPad

To add an AI Background on the iPhone or iPad version of Photoroom:

  1. Select Content.

  2. Select the workspace you want to work in.

  3. Select New design and choose a photo to upload to Photoroom.

    Alternatively, select a design in your workspace to open it in the editor.

  4. Select AI Backgrounds.

    Note: If you are editing an existing design rather than a newly imported one, select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.

    The Photoroom AI generates some potential AI images. There are many categories, including Suggested and Trending.

  5. [Optional] Select the model menu at the top to choose a different AI model. There are several AI models available and you can switch between them.

    Note: If you use the Studio HD or Studio AI models, there are limits to how many AI backgrounds it can generate each day. To learn more, see AI models for AI backgrounds.

  6. Select one of the generated AI backgrounds.

    Photoroom shows two similar possibilities and gives you the option to Generate more if you wish.

  7. [Optional] Select Customize this background to make changes to your chosen AI background. Edit the prompt for the background and describe the changes you want.

  8. When you see an AI background that you like, select it to apply it to your design. Your design opens in the editor with the AI Background in place.

  9. [Optional] Use the editing options, such as Insert, Text, and Shadows to make further changes.

  10. Select Export. Use the export options to save and share your design. Select X to close the export settings when you have finished.

    Photoroom exports your design and saves it. You can find the design in Your Designs or Team Designs, depending on the type of workspace.


On Android

To add an AI Background on the Android version of Photoroom:

  1. Select Content.

  2. Select the workspace you want to work in.

  3. Select New design and choose a photo to upload to Photoroom.

    Alternatively, select a design in your workspace to open it in the editor.

  4. Select AI Backgrounds.

    Note: If you are editing an existing design rather than a newly imported one, select Backgrounds and then AI Backgrounds.

On Web App

To add an AI background on the Web App:

  1. Log in to the web app at app.photoroom.com

  2. Select the workspace you want to work in.

  3. Select Create new and then Select a photo. Upload the photo you want to add to a design that has an AI background.

    Alternatively, select an existing design to open it in the editor.

  4. [Optional] Select Resize and choose the canvas size for your image.

  5. [Optional] Use the handles to resize and reposition the foreground objects.

  6. Select Backgrounds.

  7. Select AI Backgrounds.

  8. [Optional] Select the model menu at the top to choose a different AI model. There are several AI models available and you can switch between them.

    Note: If you use the Studio HD or Studio AI models, there are limits to how many AI backgrounds it can generate each day. To learn more, see AI models for AI backgrounds.

  9. Select one of the generated AI backgrounds.

    Photoroom shows two similar possibilities and gives you the option to Generate more if you wish.

  10. When you see an AI background that you like, select it to apply it to your design. Your design opens in the editor with the AI Background in place.

  11. [Optional] Use the editing options, such as Insert, Add text, and AI shadows to make further changes.

  12. [Optional] Select Download to download your design as an image file. Enter a name for the file and select the file format and then select Download.

  13. Select Home to save your design and exit the editor.
    You can find your saved design in Designs.
